Eatlean Protein Cheese Comparison

Lactose Free

Eatlean Protein Cheese is not only a great natural way of increasing your protein intake whilst keeping the calories under control, we can also confirm that our protein cheese is also Lactose Free.

Lactose is the sugar found in milk. Some people are sensitive or even intolerant to Lactose and could experience digestive problems if consumed.

The cheese making process naturally removes the majority of Lactose. Using the most independent and rigorous UKAS–accredited tests available, that can detect lactose at a trace level of 0.03%, these test have shown that there is no trace of lactose present in Eatlean Protein Cheese.

All Eatlean variants have the Lactose Free claim

– With the exception of Eatlean Spreadable protein cheese (we are working on this……….)

What is so good about protein?

Protein is important in two ways:

1: Proteins are the building blocks of life. Every cell in the human body contains protein. You need protein in your diet to help your body repair cells and create new ones…..especially muscle tissue.

2: High protein foods increase satiety – make you feel full up, and reduces the desire to eat more.

Aren’t all cheeses high in protein?

Cheese is a good source of protein, as the cheese making process takes the fat and the protein out of the milk to create the cheeses we all love.

But what our cheese makers do is to use their skills to increase the level of protein and to reduce the level of fat – which makes a healthier cheese, which we’ve called Protein Cheese.

What have you added to Eatlean to make it high protein?

Eatlean Protein cheese is made with the same ingredients as your everyday cheddar. We use milk, starter culture (to help convert milk to cheese) and salt. The clever part is in the skills of our cheese makers.

What are the other ingredients in Protein cheese, if Protein makes up 37%?

The only ingredients in our Protein cheese are Milk, starter cultures and salt. When our cheese is ready, it is made up of (approx.)

  • 37% Protein
  • 3% Fat
  • 2% salt
  • 0.5% Carbohydrates
  • 5% Minerals (calcium, Potassium, etc)
  • 50% moisture / water

(Milk is the main ingredient to make all cheese and as you may know, milk is made up of over 90% moisture / water. So even though our cheese feels dry (that is the increased level of protein) there is still a lot of moisture / water in all cheeses.)

Remember – Protein cheese is 100% natural

Why is protein cheese different in texture to a normal cheddar?

Because we have reduced the amount of fat in the cheese, this reduces the softness and makes the cheese look and feel drier in texture. At the same time we are increasing the protein, and this adds to the firmness of the cheese.

We are constantly looking to improve the texture and functionality of the protein cheese, and this is why we have developed the ‘Shakers’ and the spreadable cheese …..So hopefully everyone can find a protein cheese which is right for their personalised menus.

What makes Eatlean Red different from normal Eatlean protein cheese?

Eatlean Red is made the same as the normal protein cheese, but has one added ingredient – annatto – which adds the deep red colour

What is annatto?

Annatto is a natural orange-red food colouring derived from the seeds of the achiote tree.

Is Eatlean vegetarian / vegan?

Eatlean is suitable for vegetarians, but not for vegans.

Is Eatlean Halal approved?

Is Eatlean Kosher approved?

Can I freeze protein cheese?

Yes – but our recommendation would be only to freeze grated protein cheese. Freezing cheese is safe, and does not affect the flavour – however, when thawed it can make the texture of protein cheese brittle and crumbly. So our recommendation is to grate your protein cheese before freezing …. But hopefully you will eat and enjoy it all before it reaches it’s ‘best before’ date.

Please don’t try to grate the spreadable protein cheese…..it could get messy!! :)
